Chesapeake Shores series to be adapted for TV by the Hallmark Channel

NEW YORK, NY (February 3, 2014)—Harlequin, one of the world's leading publishers of books for women, has announced an agreement between the Hallmark Channel and #1 New York Times bestselling Harlequin MIRA author Sherryl Woods, to develop her popular Chesapeake Shores novels for a potential prime-time series to launch in 2015.

This announcement follows hot on the heels of a major new deal between Harlequin MIRA and Woods, brokered by literary agent Denise Marcil at Denise Marcil Literary Agency, LLC and Harlequin MIRA Editorial Director Tara Parsons.  As a part of this deal, there will be two new Chesapeake Shores books in 2015 to coincide with the possible series launch.

"It is an absolute thrill to be working on this project with the Hallmark Channel and with a team that respects the books as much as they do," said Woods.  "It's the perfect match for me and, most especially, for Chesapeake Shores.  After spending more than ten years reporting on the television industry at the beginning of my career, I feel as if my life has come full circle. I hope fans of the series are as excited about it as I am."

Woods, a mainstay on bestseller lists with more than 100 published books in the women's fiction and romance genres, has a knack for developing engaging characters within complex familial structures. In 2013, six titles by Sherryl Woods appeared on the New York Times bestsellers list. In 2009, Woods launched the Chesapeake Shores series with The Inn at Eagle Point and introduced readers to the O'Brien clan—a large Irish-American family living on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay in a town designed and founded by three O'Brien brothers. The television series focuses on the drama that ensues when the O'Brien family reunites after years apart to face the memories from their past and learn the importance of reconciliation.

"Having had the pleasure of publishing Sherry for many years, Harlequin is thrilled that one of her 'hallmark' fictional families will be translated to a television audience," said Loriana Sacilotto, Executive VP, Global Editorial at Harlequin. "Sherry has a gift for making her characters both relatable and extraordinary, which is why readers return to her stories again and again."

Chesapeake Shores is the second Harlequin MIRA series to be adapted by the Hallmark Channel as an original television series. The network currently produces and airs Cedar Cove, starring Andie MacDowell, based on the #1 New York Times bestselling series of the same name by Debbie Macomber.

Woods's novels frequently appear on the New York Times and USA TODAY bestsellers lists. Her next title, Home to Seaview Key, will be published in February 2014.
