Review: In The Midnight Hour - Flatiron 5 #3 by Deborah Cooke

Deb Cooke is one of my all time favorite authors and I eat up everything she writes, In the Midnight Hour is #3 in her fabulous Flatiron Five series set in Manhattan featuring a very cosmopolitan fitness club and the enigmatic owner operators. I've been waiting a long time to learn where the enigmatic, mysterious Damian goes every Friday at Five and it was worth the wait.
Enjoy!

Overview:
Damon has a secret…

Every Friday night, the F5 partner who is the quiet powerhouse leaves on the dot of five without explanation. Where does Damon go? What does he do? His partners want to know, but Damon can’t bring himself to share the truth about his mom’s battle with cancer. She’s the anchor in his life and he doesn’t know how he’ll go on without her. In the middle of the night, when he’s most alone, he wants to control all the variables for someone, to prove he’s not completely powerless. He doesn’t expect to find such a willing, or seductive, volunteer.
Haley loves solving mysteries…
Especially ones like the gorgeous guy who visits her favorite patient every Friday night. He must be Natasha’s son, but is he also the model on the billboard for that fitness club downtown? Where did he learn therapeutic massage? Even though she’s a nurse, Haley’s interest in him and his skill isn’t just professional. She wants to feel those hands on her own skin, for as long as possible. One night, she takes a chance and asks for a lesson from him, only to discover that she has a hunger for the sensation only Damon can satisfy.

My Review
In The Midnight Hour
By Deborah Cooke
Flatiron Five #3
Cooke’s latest in her Flatiron Five series is a poignant reminder that soldiers may leave the war but the war rarely leaves soldiers staring a bighearted couple who are two peas in a pod. Readers will get an up close and personal look at the enigmatic F5 partner Damon Perez and his love interest Haley and as this talented author unpeels their complicated layers a lonely pair who must learn they are not an island is revealed. The love scenes are smokin hot and the handling of the PTSA is fabulous and although the tale is unforgettable the unprotected sex (even though I get the heroine’s risk taking need) was a turn-off marring this otherwise amazing novel a bit.
SUMMARY:
Damon Perez purposely lets his business partners an the über successful Manhattan Flatiron Five fitness club they own think he’s going on a hot date every Friday at five when in reality he’s using massage therapy to help his dying mom with pain management. He’s also losing his own battle against PTSD that’s made an unwelcome return with his mother’s deteriorating health. But there is one light at the end of his tunnel a beautiful nurse who’s managed to keep his demons at bay, temporarily.
Oncology nurse Haley Slater is always on the lookout for alternative therapies for her patient’s pain management so when she hears a patient on her ward is benefiting from massages from her son its piqued her interest. When she meets the tall dark and handsome man in question she wants to learn all he can teach her – in and out of the bedroom. She knows she’s heading for a big fall but try as she might she can’t say no to him.

  3. It does sounds pretty good, but I can see who the unprotected sex would be a little bit of a turn off too, but at the same time I guess I can see how it would play into the this particular situation too. Great review Debbie, you have me a little curious now.

    1. I love everything Deb writes but I have to admit that unprotected sex is usually a bit turn off, I'm so riled up about it that I actually got my editor at RT to let me reduce a rating because of it. In this case it's a turn off, they just met, she's a nurse. I mean really, NO!
