GoodReads Synopsis:

A chance at love might not be out of this world in the next romantic comedy from USA Today bestselling author Mallory Marlowe.

Los Angeles social media influencer El Martin seems to live the perfect aesthetic life. But what El wants more than anything is to find something real to make her heart race in a way it hasn’t in years. She doesn’t expect that feeling to come from capturing footage of an unidentified flying . . . thing, much less from the charming Man in Black who keeps following her around.

Agent Carter Brody is trying his best to keep the Private Intelligence Sector afloat by dragging their hopelessly out-of-date office into this century, even though what he really wants to do is follow in his father’s footsteps identifying and hiding extraterrestrial sightings. He gets his chance after being assigned to El’s case and is stopped in his tracks not only by her ingenuity and confidence, but also by the unnerving coincidence of how her sighting looks eerily like what he saw right before a family tragedy.

The deeper El and Carter fall into the mystery, the harder it is for them to ignore their growing chemistry, as their own alien feelings become dangerously terrestrial.

Sophia Rose's Review:

After a breakout win for me with Love and Other Conspiracies, I was geeked to go for Mallory Marlowes’ latest which takes readers UFO hunting with an on-line social influencer and the ‘Man in Black’ agent assigned to keep such matters off social media.  Instead, she’s on a personal journey to re-brand herself as the real El and he’s digging into her find as a way to answer the mysterious death of his dad and his own past sighting.  Between banter and barely staying ahead of a danger that might cover-up their own existence, out-of-this-world romance sneaks up on El and Carter.

While Love at First Sighting is fun as this pair have an unfortunate meetcute, but go from there and, the aforementioned banter was a solid hit particularly as they are teaming up and learning to work together on the alien mystery she stumbled on up in the mountains, there is also a depth that anchors the story.

El was a child pageant contest winner and successful model which didn’t turn her head, but rather, her single-parent mom’s.  El because a commodity rather than a child and remains so no matter how often she still works at connecting with her parent.  My heart broke for her.  She has become a top influencer and followed all the rules to success, but buried her real self in the effort and she is drowning and needs someone to toss her a lifeline.  Carter is that lifeline.

Isolated, all-about-the-job Carter initially takes El’s case and works it for his own personal reason.  He’d already lost his mom. His dad was a secret government agent and he’s followed in his footsteps.  He was with his dad when a similar incident to El’s transpired and his dad lost his life and Carter held the memory of the inexplicable time.  That was all hushed up and hidden away where he couldn’t touch it, but now with the familiar parallels in El’s case, he has a chance to deep dive into that and get the answers he needs to deal with his past.  Unfortunately, someone doesn’t want this happening so the pair find that the possibility of aliens is the least of their worries.

Along the way, Carter is the one to really see through all the social influencer cover up to the real El and likes what he sees and she finds herself taken with this sweet ‘Man in Black’ who is much more than his secret agent man mysteries and black suits, and is on this discovery journey with her.

I found Love at First Sighting was as strong and engaging as the first book sharing the same ‘world’ and a loose tie through the online news service that is in both books.  Reading can be any order or standalone.  Really hope Mallory Marlowe delivers another of her quirky and fun off-beat RomComs and recommend them to other Contemporary Romance, light romantic suspense, and Romantic Comedy fans alike.

Author Bio:

Mallory Marlowe is the USA Today Bestselling author of Love and Other Conspiracies and Love at First Sighting. Seriously right-brained since childhood, her love of telling stories began with highly elaborate plots for her Barbie dolls and taking elementary school writing projects too seriously. She studied Writing for Film and TV at Emerson College. While romance is her truest love, she also loves to write across several genres from paranormal to fantasy to horror. When she isn’t writing, she’s likely reading, stuck in L.A. traffic, or fallen down a weird internet rabbit hole. She lives in Los Angeles, CA and writes video games by day.

Sophia’s Bio:

Sophia is a quiet though curious gal who dabbles in cooking, book reviewing, piano-playing, and gardening. Road trips and campouts, museums and monuments, restaurants and theaters are her jam. Encouraged and supported by an incredible man and loving family. A Northern Californian transplant to the Great Lakes Region of the US. Lover of Jane Austen, Baseball, Cats, Scooby Doo, and Chocolate.

As a lifelong reader, it was inevitable that Sophia would discover book blogs and the joy of blog reviewing. Sophia is a prolific reader and audiobook listener which allows her to experience so many wonderful books, authors, and narrators. Few genres are outside her reading tastes, but her true love is fiction particularly history, mystery, sci-fi, and romance. Though, sorry, no horror or she will run like Shaggy and Scooby.
