Overview:

Inheritance is the first in The Lost Bride Trilogy by #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts―a tale of tragedies, loves found and lost, and a family haunted for generations.

1806: Astrid Poole sits in her bridal clothes, overwhelmed with happiness. But before her marriage can be consummated, she is murdered, and the circle of gold torn from her finger. Her last words are a promise to Collin never to leave him…

Graphic designer Sonya MacTavish is stunned to learn that her late father had a twin he never knew about―and that her newly discovered uncle, Collin Poole, has left her almost everything he owned, including a majestic Victorian house on the Maine coast, which the will stipulates she must live in it for at least three years. Her engagement recently broken, she sets off to find out why the boys were separated at birth―and why it was all kept secret until a genealogy website brought it to light.

Trey, the young lawyer who greets her at the sprawling clifftop manor, notes Sonya’s unease―and acknowledges that yes, the place is haunted…but just a little. Sure enough, Sonya finds objects moved and music playing out of nowhere. She sees a painting by her father inexplicably hanging in her deceased uncle’s office, and a portrait of a woman named Astrid, whom the lawyer refers to as “the first lost bride.” It’s becoming clear that Sonya has inherited far more than a house. She has inherited a centuries-old curse, and a puzzle to be solved if there is any hope of breaking it…

My Macmillan Audio Review:

Inheritance
Lost Brides Trilogy #1
Nora Roberts

Roberts first in her new fantasy trilogy, Inheritance, is an unputdownable read from Nora’s heroine Sonya walking in on her fiancĂ© and cousin at the start to the OMG you didn’t just drop that ENORMOUS cliffhanger on us end. The plot is ingenious, a haunted manor, a curse and the kick butt protagonist that will NOT leave no matter what the unfriendly spirit wants. The characters are all fabulous both corporeal and ethereal but Sonya is the real star followed by Cleo and Trey as close seconds. Sonya is such a genuine character that the audience won’t have a choice but to fall in love with her and cheer her on as she fights against the evil spirit. Cleo is also fabulous and listening to the audio version will really bring her to life for listeners. Trey is also a great character, reliable and steadfast and of course there are the dogs that are icing on the plot cake. Okay so lets talk about the I did not see this coming end, Nora, WHY did you do this to us and will we have to wait a year for book 2 tell me it aint so.

Narration:
Brittany Pressley does an incredible job of narrating this novel, I mean she just really gets every character and her portrayal of Cleo is unforgettable, I mean the Creole Louisiana drawl is just right on, that and just all her incredible role playing makes the Macmillan audio edition the best way to really enjoy every aspect of this book. Brava!

After a bad breakup Sonya McTavish is looking for a new start but learning that her deceased father had a twin brother no one knew about and that on his death that uncle, Collin Poole has left her most of his estate including the family manor on the coast of Maine is quite the shock. Sonya is thinking about accepting her inheritance, but it comes with a warning, it’s haunted and a stipulation, she has to live there for three years for the inheritance to finalize.

Being a graphic designer Sonya can work anywhere and after conferring first with her uncle’s attorney, Oliver Doyle, then with her mom and her best friend Cleo Sonya decides to go for it. She wants to learn more of her father’s family history and why her father and brother never knew about each other.  She falls in love with the large manor and the quaint town of Poole’s Bay and settles in along with her resident spirits including one that really doesn’t want her there.
