GoodReads Synopsis:

“I can assure you that nothing from your pen, your lips, or the tips of your fingers, could ever dissuade me from what I feel for you.”

Elizabeth Bennet faces a tragedy. The one man she loathes above all others is hopelessly in love with her because he heard her unnaturally beguiling voice.

Fitzwilliam Darcy confronts an unexpected problem. After finally making an offer to a lady, she accuses him of being temporarily deluded by her siren blood.

In this Happily Ever After Pride and Prejudice variation novella inspired by Greek mythology, Elizabeth attempts to convince her ardent admirer that he is mistakenly enraptured whilst Darcy does all in his power to prove his love is sincere.

Swell My Song is Book One of The Mayhap Myths-Pride and Prejudice Variation Novellas inspired by Greek mythology.

Sophia Rose's Review:

A Pride and Prejudice Variation drawing on Greek Mythology puts a new twist on a woman’s ‘mesmerizing music’ capturing a man’s heart.  Lyndsay Constable is an adventurous author not afraid to explore curious paths for her Pride and Prejudice variations and Swell My Song, the beginning of the new Mayhap Myths trilogy of novellas is no exception.

Swell My Song opens with Elizabeth Bennet visiting her newly married friend to Elizabeth’s parson cousin in Kent and finds herself right back in the company of a man she detests because her friend’s patroness is the man’s aunt, Lady Catherine de Bourgh.

This encounter doesn’t go like the previous one in Hertfordshire because Elizabeth broke a strict rule her father placed on her- never sing for a single gentleman because she is the secret descendant of sirens.  Sure enough, Mr. Darcy hears her sing and now the man is spouting a proposal and speaking of love.  He insists his love is his own idea, but how can she believe in it?

Swell My Song is novella-length and moves swiftly with minimal angst and conflict as Elizabeth learns more about Mr. Darcy and, at the same time, about herself and her family.  Darcy might be prideful and arrogant, but her own hurt pride and errors in judgment show her that he isn’t the man she imagined and she slowly comes to welcome his presence.  Too bad, his demanding aunt and her foolish sister cause them no end of difficulty.

I wished this could have been a little longer and expanded some of the elements.  I had a good time pondering ‘is she or isn’t she?’ about her siren ability when Darcy was certain about the source of his love and Elizabeth wasn’t sure what to think.  I can’t wait to see what myth the author tackles with the next variation tale in the series.  A quick, light sweet romance recommended for your TBR pile.

Author Bio:

Lyndsay Constable has been a passionate reader since her early teen years and frequently selected books that could be successfully hidden behind the person sitting in front of her in class. Originally from North Carolina, she attended both North Carolina School of the Arts and SUNY Purchase for dance. She currently lives in Virginia with her husband, child, dog, cat and a small murder of crows who refuse to become friendly with her despite all of the peanuts she has given them. Whatever, she’s not bitter.

Sophia’s Bio:

Sophia is a quiet though curious gal who dabbles in cooking, book reviewing, piano-playing, and gardening. Road trips and campouts, museums and monuments, restaurants and theaters are her jam. Encouraged and supported by an incredible man and loving family. A Northern Californian transplant to the Great Lakes Region of the US. Lover of Jane Austen, Baseball, Cats, Scooby Doo, and Chocolate.

As a lifelong reader, it was inevitable that Sophia would discover book blogs and the joy of blog reviewing. Sophia is a prolific reader and audiobook listener which allows her to experience so many wonderful books, authors, and narrators. Few genres are outside her reading tastes, but her true love is fiction particularly history, mystery, sci-fi, and romance. Though, sorry, no horror or she will run like Shaggy and Scooby.
