GoodReads Synopsis:

In the wake of a woman’s savage murder, the suspects and motives are only mounting for Sheriff Bree Taggert in a twisting novel of suspense by #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh.

In a quiet suburban neighborhood in upstate New York, single mom Kelly Gibson is slain in her home—the victim of a rage killing. Right away, Sheriff Bree Taggert has three persons of interest: an angry soon-to-be ex-husband, a furtive rebound boyfriend, and an obsessive neighbor.

But as Bree and investigator Matt Flynn work together to narrow the field, there’s a shocking twist in the case: a second woman is murdered in the same brutal fashion.

While investigating, Bree is attacked and left for dead. When another woman is kidnapped, Bree and Matt must act quickly to unravel the deceptions in Kelly’s life and death and find a killer before someone else dies.

Sophia Rose's Review:

When a callout to a murder scene comes to Sheriff Bree Taggert, a calculating murderer has an agenda- and its only just getting started.  Melinda Leigh’s Bree Taggert series has been a consistent greatly anticipated one for each new release and Beyond Her Reach was no exception.

Beyond Her Reach is the tenth in a series that works best in order due to the way the author has developed Bree Taggert’s story, but this had a crossover secondary role for Morgan Dane and Lance from the earlier written Morgan Dane series.

Bree arrives at the scene of a horrific murder.  She, Matt, and her dependable deputies process the scene and begin the investigation.  A woman has been murdered and this time Bree has at least three suspects and some evidence and circumstances leading to all of them.  Then a second murder points an unerring finger toward one particular suspect.  Bree herself is a target.  She needs to get the answers quickly.

While the investigation is going on, Bree is also facing some personal challenges when a memory from her childhood forces her to confront some lingering feelings she was barely aware she had, her nephew is preparing to head off to college, one of Matt’s training K-9s is too much for Cady as she nears the end of her pregnancy so the goofy, high-energy animal gets deputized, and there are always the politics she must carefully navigate for her job.

Bree has come into her own and Matt, too, is in a really good place.  The police procedural case was not ‘same ol’ stuff’, but drew me in and had me riding along as the investigation and life circumstances played out in this latest.  Fans of romantic suspense, light on the romance with a smart detecting character and clever mystery plot with a textured character and relationship development in a small town and rural situation need look no further than the Bree Taggert series.

Author Bio:

#1 Wall Street Journal and #1 Amazon Charts bestselling author Melinda Leigh is a fully recovered banker. A life-long lover of books, she started writing as a way to preserve her sanity while raising her kids. Over the next few years, she learned a few things about writing a book. The process was much more fun than analyzing financial statements, and she decided to turn her hobby into a career.

Her debut novel, SHE CAN RUN, was nominated for Best First Novel by the International Thriller Writers. Since then, she has garnered numerous publisher awards, including two Silver Falchions and three Golden Leaf Awards. She is a two-time RITA® Award Finalist and has earned three Daphne du Maurier Award nominations. Melinda’s books have sold over 15 million copies.

She holds a 2nd degree belt in Kenpo Karate. She’s dabbled in Arnis stick fighting, studied Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and taught women’s self-defense. She lives near the beach with her family and a small herd of spoiled rescue pets. With such a pleasant life, she has no explanation for the sometimes dark and disturbing nature of her imagination.

She is represented by Jill Marsal of the Marsal Lyon Literary Agency.

Sophia’s Bio:

Sophia is a quiet though curious gal who dabbles in cooking, book reviewing, piano-playing, and gardening. Road trips and campouts, museums and monuments, restaurants and theaters are her jam. Encouraged and supported by an incredible man and loving family. A Northern Californian transplant to the Great Lakes Region of the US. Lover of Jane Austen, Baseball, Cats, Scooby Doo, and Chocolate.

As a lifelong reader, it was inevitable that Sophia would discover book blogs and the joy of blog reviewing. Sophia is a prolific reader and audiobook listener which allows her to experience so many wonderful books, authors, and narrators. Few genres are outside her reading tastes, but her true love is fiction particularly history, mystery, sci-fi, and romance. Though, sorry, no horror or she will run like Shaggy and Scooby.
