Hi Donna welcome back to The Reading Frenzy
Tell my readers a little about Fated.
Thanks so much for having me again! Fated is the third book in The Karma Series, which follows Karma from her death, to her position with the Universe and also her relationship with her coworker, Fate.

This is the third book in the series.
Am I wrong or was this initially going to be a trilogy?
Even though I’m writing Lars’ story right now, I still kind of consider it a trilogy. Those three first books have their own story arc. I’m structuring Lars’ story, Dead Ink, to either be read in addition or as a standalone.
I do have a short story prequel in the works that will answer some questions the readers might not have known they had, lol.
I’ve had people ask if there will be more Karma and Fate and there may be but it wouldn’t be for a while. There are more stories I’d like to explore there but I’ve also got other ideas on the back burner that I’m dying to write.

Who of the eclectic cast of characters in the Karma series gives you the most trouble writing about?
Definitely Malokin. I have the hardest time getting into his head. Maybe because I really just don’t want to be in there.

Your next book in the series is about the tattoo artist and former death, Lars.
Tell us a bit about his story.
In Dead Ink you get to learn more about Lars’ history and why he retired as Death and the internal struggles that he faces and how that affects his relationship with Faith. It’s going to be much more of a paranormal romance than the UF I typically write.
While I was writing Karma, Lars became one of my favorite characters. When the romance bug hit me hard, it was as if he were just sitting beside me saying here I am in all my rough-edged glory! Gimme a story!

Will Fate and Karma be returning characters in the on going series?
Honest answer? I don’t know exactly how ongoing it is going to be.  They are in Dead Ink since the time line parallels Fated to a certain extent. There are more story lines I’d like to explore for Fate and Karma and some were hinted at in the first three books. The problem I run into is having too many storylines I want to write and not enough time to write them.  I’ve got Lars’ story and I have this other idea that I’m definitely going to do so I’m not sure which direction will be next. I’ve also got another one that continues on The Keepers and wraps up the Dodd loose end that I haven’t gotten to yet but plan on eventually doing.

Donna you also run a blog and in one of your posts you talked about your writing funk.
What was the catalyst that pulled you out of it and how long did it last?
I usually can write my way out of a funk. I write badly for a while and then it’ll start turning around. I consider myself pretty lucky to be able to support myself writing so I don’t dwell too long. To be honest, I’m slightly embarrassed I posted that. It was a little bit of a pity party. The thing is, I find writing to be very cathartic and I used writing that post to help me get out of my funk.

Donna tell my readers how the writing bug bit you.
I think I’ve always thought about writing. There are a lot of reasons but one is I’m notoriously bad at falling asleep. It’s always the quiet of night that gets all the thoughts spinning so I started imaging bedtime stories for myself as a way to occupy my thoughts. Then I would want to read the rest of those stories but they didn’t exist anywhere so I had to write them.

Donna, you write Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance.
What genres do you enjoy reading?
I write in the genres I love the most but I’ll read almost anything good.

What’s the last great book you recommended to a friend and why?
The last book that I truly loved to pieces and could reread countless times was Iced by Karen Moning. A book that I read not that recently but really stuck in my head was Sarah’s Key. It’s set during WWII and it’s a heavy read but it’s still stuck in my head which I guess makes it a great read. If you do decide to give it a try, make sure you’re prepared. It’s far from the happy books I normally lean toward.

Donna you’re a wonderful needle felting artist.
How did you get started doing this?
Thanks! I love trying new things. I can’t seem to stop myself. I saw a needle felted bunny and thought that it was the cutest thing I’d ever seen so I ordered supplies. That’s pretty much all there is to it.

Is it a stress reliever?
Sort of? I have a hard time unwinding completely. I never just watch TV or do only one thing so it gives me something else to do that isn’t that distracting when there is a show I want to watch. Knitting is good for this as well.

Donna thanks so much for answering these questions. Good luck with Fated and I can’t wait to read Lars’ novel.
Thank you so much for having me!

My Review
Karmas getting more competent in her new immortal, hopefully temporary, ruling the universe, role while still clinging on to her human conscience as much as inhumanly possible. But theres a big problem with the world and to say its going to hell in a hand basket is a gross understatement. The human society is becoming more volatile, everyday crime is on the rise and it seems no one is safe. Even the members of the UFU, Unknown Forces of the Universe, whose job it is to actually run the universe are scratching their heads. Karma wonders if it has something to do with the evil doer Malokin and the things he forced her to do to save a colleague, shes hoping by righting those wrongs the world will go back on its axis. At least shes got sexy Fate, her sometimes lover and constant nemesis, to help her, although resisting him in such close proximity is doubtful at best, futile at worst. She just knows somethings got to give to save the world.
The third in Donna Augustines Karma series continues the dystopian, earth shattering action of her preceding episodes, answering questions raised during the first two novels both relationship and cosmic wise with spine-tingling action, laugh-out-loud humor and sizzling romance. Her eclectic stable of memorable immortal characters never ceases to amaze and she gives some hints of possible tales to come. Her take no prisoner dialogue fit the devastating scenes and the raw emotion of the story. But its her stars Karma and Fate that really steal the show furthering their unique courtship that features some palpable sexual banter leading to explosive passion between the sheets and culminates in an awesome ending.
Thank you Donna for this fantastic fable I hope to see more of this out of this world series.

  1. I actually kind of like that even though this may have originally been a trilogy that the author is giving her readers that little something extra and that she may have more stories to tell in the future as well. It is always a treat when that happens after you have fallen in love with the characters and don't want it to end.
