What I did on my Summer Vacation

Yes it finally happened the vacation that almost wasn't came together and we had a ball

Traveling for two days by car is not always pretty there are a lot of "are we there yets" but all in all it was an uneventful trip to Florida.
Our most notable stop on the first day was in Nashville and had lunch at The Pharmacy
We overnighted in Birmingham and day two sent us through Montgomery and the brutal, sobering Legacy Museum located on the actual sight where the slaves were sold. I will never forget this experience and one that everyone should visit.

And had to stop in at Big Daddy's Dreamland BBQ for lunch yummy!

Arriving in Destin was like coming to another world, the water is so blue and the beaches are so white it's the most beautiful thing I ever saw. And our first night's sunset was breathtaking.

We did a lot of sightseeing and some really fun activities
like going on a Dolphin sighting cruise and actually seeing dolphins

And the Destin museum of history and fishing
it was fun to learn all about the history of Destin (founded by 16 families and there are still descendants of each family in Destin) and fishing history (Destin is called the luckiest fishing village)
and getting our pic taken outside of the museum by a giant shark mouth. Yikes!

And everyone getting to go to the beach even Bill thanks to a really cool beach wheelchair

They even have a Temple Mound made in the Mississipian era that actually did trade with the Temple Mound near us in Cahokia. It was smaller but very interesting to learn all about it.

Here we are posing in front of the steps to the mound.

And of course we had some fun by the pool

And on our resort's private beach were the water was so clear you could stand in waist deep water and still see the footprints of a hermit crab on the bottom.
Incredible

Another pic of me and mini me :)

Alas it all had to end too soon and we said goodbye to Destin after enjoying our last beautiful sunrise

We came home through Starkville MS where our middle son is a professor at Mississippi State and then home the next day.
It was a fabulous time.
Thanks to my wonderful daughter and son-in-law for making this trip possible
And if that wasn't fab enough while we were gone my nephew turned this

    1. The water was amazing Kathryn and visiting the Slave memorial did give me the shivers. I just can't fathom one human being doing that to another yet its been done since the beginning of time.
