Overview:

In this Christmas mystery, lawyer Andy Carpenter and his golden retriever, Tara, are on the beat after a body turns up in the snow and a journalist is the prime suspect.

Christmas has come early to the town of Paterson, New Jersey, in the form of a snowstorm that dumps two feet of snow on the ground. Lawyer Andy Carpenter likes snow – white Christmas and all that – but it can cause problems for the walks he takes his dogs on every day.

When Andy’s golden retriever, Tara, goes to play in the snow and instead discovers a body, Andy ends up on the phone with the local newspaper editor. The murder victim is Mayor Alex Oliva, who had an infamous relationship with the newspaper. Last year a young reporter published an expose, and Oliva had him fired for libel. Now, the young reporter – and prime suspect – is in need of a lawyer.

Andy agrees to take the case, though it’s not looking good this holiday season. The evidence is piling up faster than the snow in Best in Snow, the next Christmas mystery in the best-selling Andy Carpenter series from David Rosenfelt.

My Review:

Best in Snow
David Rosenfelt

Rosenfelt’s 24th Andy Carpenter and annual holiday mystery, Best In Snow is fantastic, as he ho ho ho’s he shows off Andy’s dry sense of humor and showcases his super investigative team, including his over-the-top Christmas loving wife, his son and his friends frenemies who help with the case as well. The narrative is full of perfectly placed humor and just enough intrigue to give his audience the chills and bringing in the mob makes it the perfect Christmas conundrum. Fans of this series and lovers of bit more than cozy mysteries will find this hard to put down. This reads well as a stand- a-lone but as in all series it’s best read in order.

Narration: As Always Grover Gardner does a bang up job, he’s the perfect Andy and does a really good job of all the other characters too.

Just before Christmas semi-retired defense lawyer Andy Carpenter gets an unwanted gift when his golden retriever, Tara digs up a dead body under a layer of snow. The body turns out to be Patterson New Jersey’s mayor and the gifts just keep coming when his buddy the newspaper editor asks him to defend the suspect, who just happens to be one of the newspaper’s ex-employees that the police just arrested. There are a lot of motives, but the clues just don’t add up and there may be MOB involvement too which convinces Andy his client is innocent. But believing and proving are not the same thing and with the mob connection Andy’s got to keep everyone safe too.

  2. I've read a few of these. I think I'm more interested in trying the spin-off K9 series he has.
