GoodReads Synopsis:
The aliens are here . . . and they want municipal services!
Ashley Perrin is fresh out of college and starting a job as a community liaison for the Third District—the city’s only sector with more alien residents than humans. Ashley’s barely found where the paper clips are kept when she’s beset with constituent complaints–from too much noise at the Annual Lupidian Celebration Parade to a trip-and-fall chicken to a very particular type of alien hornet that threatens the very city itself.
And if that’s not terrifying enough, Ashley is next up at the office karaoke night.
It's Parks and Recreation meets the Federation of Planets in this fast and funny audio exclusive by Hugo Award winner and Audible best seller John Scalzi.
Sophia Rose's Review:
The third district is the most alien-rich population in the city and the constituent position is now in the hands of a human new to the job. Between office visits, online requests, and off-site inspection, its baptism by fire for Ashley. Is she going to outlast the last constituent?
John Scalzi’s sci-fi has been a go-to choice for some time and I was grinning even before I turned on my Kindle for this latest sci-fi with strong comedic element.
The aliens are now earth residents and civic government has its hands full adjusting to all the various alien races, their needs, and their melding with humans and human laws.
Constituent Service begins when Ashley arrives at her job and meets her interesting alien coworkers. She’s the first non-alien in a long time to hold the position. Now, she’s got a back up of requests and complaints to handle not the least is a woman whose chicken got hit by a municipal bus- Ashley’s bus, actually, an illegal pet notice, and hints the city sewers in the neighborhood are backed up- oh, and let’s not forget the annual parade that gets so loud and stompy that it breaks shop windows. Ashley girds up her loins and plunges in to do what needs doing- and I do mean plunge in.
This was a light and funny quick-read that was highly entertaining. I love the various aliens and their ways and how that made things interesting in this city district. I hope more stories are written in the Third District series. Want some fun sci-fi entertainment, put Constituent Service on your reading list.
Author Bio:
John Scalzi writes books, which, considering where you're reading this, makes perfect sense. He's best known for writing science fiction, including the "Old Man's War" series, the Hugo-winning Redshirts, and Starter Villain. He also writes non-fiction, on subjects ranging from personal finance to astronomy to film, and has written several episodes of the "Love, Death + Robots" series on Netflix. He enjoys pie, as should all right thinking people. You can get to his blog by typing the word "Whatever" into Google. No, seriously, try it.
Sophia’s Bio:
Sophia is a quiet though curious gal who dabbles in cooking, book reviewing, piano-playing, and gardening. Road trips and campouts, museums and monuments, restaurants and theaters are her jam. Encouraged and supported by an incredible man and loving family. A Northern Californian transplant to the Great Lakes Region of the US. Lover of Jane Austen, Baseball, Cats, Scooby Doo, and Chocolate.
As a lifelong reader, it was inevitable that Sophia would discover book blogs and the joy of blog reviewing. Sophia is a prolific reader and audiobook listener which allows her to experience so many wonderful books, authors, and narrators. Few genres are outside her reading tastes, but her true love is fiction particularly history, mystery, sci-fi, and romance. Though, sorry, no horror or she will run like Shaggy and Scooby.
