Overview

A one night stand.
A secret.
A mistake they tried to forget.
On leave from the army, Tyler Dare was just looking for a little fun, but his sister's best friend is off limits. Yet unable to deny how sexy and alluring she is, he finds it all too easy to succumb to a night of passion and heat that ends the next morning in the worst way possible.
There are just some guys you don't touch--even someone as innocent and inexperienced as Ella Shaw knows that. But when her best friend's brother is up for grabs and willing, she can't resist. After all, she's wanted him for years…
Now, Ella is stranded on a tropical island with a hurricane bearing down, and only Tyler can save her. It's his chance to make amends for the past and show the woman he's never forgotten that he's coming after her . . . in more ways than one.

Carly hi! I’m so excited to have you on the blog.
Tell my readers about your new release Dare to Take.
Thanks! I’m so happy to be here. Dare to Take is the story of Tyler Dare and Ella Shaw. It’s a “forbidden” romance in the sense that when they first came together, Ella was 18 and Tyler’s sister’s best friend. Fast forward to the present, and Ella is mugged while on an island for a business trip, a hurricane is on its way. Tyler’s sister and Ella’s best friend, begs him to go save her. Let the fun begin!

How are the Dare to Love series books related and should they be read in order or do they stand well on their own?
The Dare to Love series books are the story of siblings who were all shaped by their father’s betrayal. Each book stands on its own. The only benefit I see to reading in order is that you’ve already “met” the siblings before reading their book. That said, I don’t tend to give away much of anything in prior books, so you can definitely pick up with Dare to Take and go from there.

Why does romance rock your world?
Happily Ever After endings. Need I say more? That’s what rocks my world. A guaranteed happy ending between the two people you’ve been rooting for the whole book. You don’t know how you’ll get there but you know you’ll feel good when you do.

Carly off the novel subject for a bit, I noticed you dedicate quite a bit of space on your website to your beloved 4 legged friends. I just recently retired and have just a few weeks ago adopted a rescue dog, a 4.5-year-old Corgi Mix who has fit into our lives beautifully.
Did you always have pets, or did you become a pet mom more recently?
I love Corgis! So cute. I didn’t have pets as a kid but always wanted a dog. I knew when I was an adult that I’d have one. I never knew I’d end up with three! My husband and I fell in love with soft coated Wheaten terriers and we got our first one about eighteen years ago. We lost Buddy when he was twelve. By then we had our second wheaten, Bailey and we decided to get a Havanese next. Brady. But Brady is large for his breed, which fits in perfectly with our larger wheatens. This past summer we rescued Tony, another wheaten. That brings our current total to three. I adore them.

Carly I noticed on your “about you” page on your website that the worse and best part of being a writer to you is being able to work from home.
When you’re deadline crunching do you lock yourself away and forget about the rest of the world or is it just another day in your week?
It’s another day in my week. I definitely write more in the days leading up to the deadline but I’m more focused and into the story by then, which is often easier than beginnings for me. I love working from home. Seriously. It’s just that there are more distractions.

Speaking again to Carly the author if you read the first book you ever published would you still be happy with it or would you edit it to death?
I’d edit it to death. I have about 3 books written early in my career that I have the rights back to and are self-published. I’ve had them re-edited and made more current … but i admit it’s very hard for me to read them. :)

Carly you write fabulous romance but has your muse ever whispered in your ear to try a new genre?
Thank you! Believe it or not … no. I have no desire to write outside the Romance genre. I love what I do so much.

You have two daughters; at what age would you let them read one of your spicier romances?
Oh they’ve read them (or at least started them, probably freaked out, and put them down). I don’t know. I think that since they’re over 20 now, it’s difficult for me to think back and pick an age. They’re all about monogamous relationships so I like that they’d know that when they read.

Carly thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions. Good luck with the new novel and all your future endeavors.
Are you touring with this release, are your appearances listed on your website?
Thank you for having me! I’m not touring per se but any appearances and signings I’m doing can be found here: http://www.carlyphillips.com/category/appearances/

  2. Great interview Debbie! I love that this series is about a family, siblings in general. It is so much fun to have series like that that follow a family along and to get sneak peeks at the others along the way too.
