Angel Hi welcome to The Reading Frenzy
I’ve been loving your narration of Donna Augustine’s The Wilds series.
How long have you been narrating novels?I started off doing radio in 2011, and switched to radio part-time and narration full time in 2014. I did, however, already have a background in drama as I went to a performing arts school where drama was one of my majors. It made the switch much easier I think.

You really capture the essence of the lead character
Dahlia.
To get ready to narrate a novel/series do you read the book(s) first?
I don’t. I read the author’s description of the main character and just go for it. There is a reason for that though. You see, a lot of the books I do are mysteries and the like. If I read the book first, I will know the surprise ending, and I would hate to give it away with nuances in the narration of the book ahead of time.

Is there a formula you use to put yourself in
character or is it different with every book?
It’s different with each character. I also find myself getting surprisingly attached to characters throughout books, so some are much harder than others (especially when they get themselves killed).

Even though the narrator in this series is the
protagonist Dahlia, your narrator’s voice is notably different then all the
others even Dahlia.
Is this true for all your narrations, just the ones in first person like this or just this one?
I do this particular narration tone for a few different books. It’s not my most common, but it’s my favorite. I feel like it’s very dramatic and helps really set the tone for a post-apocalyptic world.

I’ve noticed some special effects you’ve added to
these novels.
Was this something you planned from the start?
My producer does that. He likes to … play at times. Some of my authors allow him to add special effects and he has an absolute blast with it!

Do you prefer narrating series or stand alones?
A series every time. The characters end up feeling like old friends!

Is there a place where fans can find the novels you
narrate?
Your best bet is to check on audible. I have some listed on my website as well, RadioFreedom.US

Angel thanks so much for taking the time to answer my
questions.
I can’t wait to listen to another novel you narrate.
Thank YOU for your interest! I’ll be honest, 90% of the time when someone contacts us, it’s about complaints. People rarely contact me with compliments. I think that’s how we (society) work in large part these days. If we’re outraged, we act. If we’re happy, we have a glass of wine and a smile. You have made my month!

My audible edition reviews of the series
The Wilds
Narration 4 stars
The audible edition of The Wilds is a wonderful way to enjoy a more multi-dimensional experience of Donna Augustine's fabulous novel. Angel Clark does a great job with the all the voices, tonality and character interpretation. There are a few narrative mistakes in this edition but it doesn’t lessen the overall enjoyment of the listen. And her voice as the star, Dahlia is exceptional and gives a more intense characterization of Dahlia's extreme vulnerability and innocence in life matters.

The Hunt
Narration 5 stars
Angel Clark’s flawless narration really sets off Augustine’s world building and her characters to a tee even going as far as using some really effective vocal special effects. Her narrator’s voice differing from her other voice characterizations is a persuasive tool that really benefits the listening pleasure.

The DeadNarration 5 stars
Angel Clark’s narration is brilliant especially how perfectly she captures all
the facets of Dahlia, from the kick-butt heroine, the refreshingly naïve
innocent and the stubborn mule headed teenager giving the listener a more
rounded experience of Augustine’s novel that isn’t possible by reading.
The Magic
Narration 5 stars
Angel Clark is perfection in her performance of Donna's finale in her The Wilds Series. She really nails the angst, the drama, the action and the romance, plus her vocal special effects rock. Her use of a separate voice for the narrator of the story gives an extra layer of enjoyment.

Isn't it great when you find an author that you love, love, love? I'm trying to get better, but I have a super difficult time listening to audiobooks because I end up getting sleepy. Everyone else thinks I'm nuts and need to get on board! lol Hugs...RO
ReplyDeleteYou know what Ro it to each his/her own, it took me awhile to get into them too. But now I love them.
DeleteThanks for the visit!
I think I own a book or two of this series on my Kindle. I'll have to search for them. I'm glad you like them so much. Like Ro, audiobooks out me to sleep as well so I pretty much stay away from them but I do admire the people who listen to them a lot. #getsocial17
ReplyDeleteThanks Barb!
DeleteHi Debbie,
ReplyDeleteI seriously love the idea of interviewing the narrator. I don't listen to a lot of books. Honestly, the first one I tried to listen to one I hated the narrator and the way he voiced a female character. I think female characters and Spanish accents were NOT his thing.
But I love that Angel is just a reader and discover things about the books along with the reader. That would definitely make the experience more enjoyable.
I'm Kim from Read Your Writes Book Reviews. #GetSocial
