The Line Between Obsession and Love
has Disappeared
The world has changed. Any rules that might’ve been in
place before the Scorpius bacterium ripped through civilization and decreased
its population are no longer in place. Obsession and survival are the new
reality. So, Marcus Knight, after a hellish time in captivity that stole most
of his memory and all of his soul, has one focus, and that’s keeping Dr. Penelope
Kim safe in the aftermath. She’d risked her life to save him once, and she’s
all that matters. For months, he’s kept his distance, protecting her from afar,
because he knows that one touch—one sigh—one kiss—from her will never be
enough.
Passion is a Dangerous and Deadly Temptation
Penny Kim is one of the few doctors still living, and she
alone holds the key to ensuring the human race continues. Several of her
friends are pregnant, and the clock is ticking down on their survival. Her days
are filled with experiments and hope, while her nights are consumed with
visions and dreams of the hard-bodied and powerful soldier who’s made her
safety his one and only mission. She should be wary of him; she should be
terrified of him. Yet all she feels is an unreal craving for his touch that
gets stronger every day. Life is short, and she’s unwilling to wait, unaware of
the danger already hunting them both. Some risks are worth it, even in this new
and dangerous world.
Sophia Rose's Review:
Scorpius Syndrome series is addicting
once a reader gets rolling. And, as
such, I was reluctant to finish this last book and know it all was ended. Parts dystopian, sci-fi, and spicy hot
romance, each installment is a rush from start to finish.
Knight Awakening is the sixth book in a
series that must be read in order due to the strongly-connected overall story.
The world has been upended by a
pandemic bacteria and the survivors are still fighting the disease and their
own fellow humans led by an insane president and his allies. Vanguard and the Mercenaries have joined
forces to protect their people and find answers. Their last big find in the secret bunker
brought them little new information and supplies, but for Jax Mercury it is a
win because his brother is found down in the cells alive. But, Marcus Knight has been held captive,
tortured, and experimented on so that his mind might never recover because his
memories are shattered.
It has been a few years since I read
the last installment in the series, but I didn’t hesitate to dive back in. I remembered a great deal because the series
has been a strong favorite. I cheered
when Jax found his brother alive, but was sad when Marcus couldn’t remember anything
before the lab cells. I enjoyed getting
his hard-fought story along with seeing the buttoned up and serious Dr.
Penelope first misunderstand their attraction and then fight it as they go for
it. Marcus and Penelope’s story is told
in the foreground of a bigger story that is the grand finale.
Atherton is still after Lynne and his
evil scientist lover wants Marcus back as her play toy. They and their force now including the gang
members plan to dominate the barely there United States. Meanwhile, the Vanguard-Mercenary group are
running out of water, are feverishly working for a cure to help the pregnant
women and they have a saboteur setting the violent, mindless ‘Rippers’ into
their stronghold killing people and destroying their precious small supply of
medicines for the Scorpius victims. So
much going on and it was all rushing to a grand climax that had me flipping
pages rapidly and reading with baited breath.
The finale book was all I could hope
for and delivered a strong finish. There
is a side thread that came out of the prequel and a later novella featuring
other players and I would enjoy more from that end. Pretty please, Ms.
Zanetti! Overall I liked where the
author ended it even as I’m sad to leave a fabulous cast of couples and their
friends behind. Those who enjoy strong
action and spicy romance in a dystopian setting shouldn’t miss this series.

Sophia’s Bio:
Sophia
is a quiet though curious gal who dabbles in cooking, book reviewing,
piano-playing, and gardening. Road trips and campouts, museums and monuments,

man and loving family. A Northern Californian transplant to the Great Lakes
Region of the US. Lover of Jane Austen, Baseball, Cats, Scooby Doo, and
Chocolate.
As a lifelong reader, it was inevitable that
Sophia would discover book blogs and the joy of blog reviewing. Sophia is a
prolific reader and audiobook listener which allows her to experience so many
wonderful books, authors, and narrators. Few genres are outside her reading
tastes, but her true love is fiction particularly history, mystery, sci-fi, and
romance. Though, sorry, no horror or she will run like Shaggy and Scooby.
