GoodReads Blurb:
A new town, new friends, new
challenges…. And a new heart-stopping adventure from #1 New York Times bestselling
author, Ilona Andrews. Kate, Curran, and Conlan may have left Atlanta for
Wilmington, but the usual magic mayhem has also hitched a ride!
Kate and Curran have just settled into their new home and
their 'low prolife,' when a local businessman approaches them with an offer
they can’t refuse. A mysterious evil has spawned in the nearby forest and is
holding a defenseless town hostage. The ‘due date’ is rapidly approaching.
It’s exactly the kind of fight the Lennarts can’t resist,
not for the prize the town offers, but for the people who will surely die if
they ignore it. If they succeed, they’ll be rescuing an entire community and
can build a strong new base for their family and the Wilmington Pack. If they
fail...well, fail is a four-letter word.
Nothing comes without a price. Now Kate must decide if
she has what it takes to pay it.
Sophia Rose's Review:
The days of quiet and domesticity are
at an end. Kate and Curran can’t say no
to a town beleaguered by a deadly encroaching forest danger. Magic Claims continues the Kate Daniels story
in this latest breath-stealing, heart-thumping cover to cover installment.
Magic Claims is the second in a follow
up series to the original Kate Daniels books.
Those coming to this as newbies really do need to start back at the very
beginning and make your way through them all (don’t worry, it is so worth it).
Kate and Curran are approached by a
wealthy businessman with a proposition.
He’ll give them a large slice of virgin forest land if they rescue his
whole home town just north of there from a mysterious magical power come out of
that same forest. Kate had already been
coming to the realization with the help of her goddess-like aunt that she can’t
sustain the domestic life-style the Lennarts have had for the last few years. She needs to face who and what they are and
that means getting back into the game they were both born to play- saving
people- starting with this town.
I loved the buildup of Kate knowing
she was on a harrowing journey to figure out what her future would be and, more
importantly to her, Conlan and Curran’s future, but this journey involved
facing off with something wicked and dark in the woods. Kate is the primary narrator, but Curran gets
some significant page time as well. I
love seeing their romantic and working partnership where they are strong
individuals, but phenomenal together.
Their core group continues to grow and it’s neat seeing Conlan growing
up through these stories. And wasn’t it
the height of fun to discover what was menacing the town and presented a worthy
adversary. The future ought to be
interesting after the way things finished with this one.
Magic Claims built to a sensational
climax with fabulous fight scenes and great character build moments along the
way. There was no reading this book
slowly. I devoured it and was left
wanting more and equally tempted to merely click back to page one and read it
right on through again. If you’ve not
had the pleasure, Urban Fantasy fans, you really must go for the gusto and not
bat an eye at how many books are in the original and new series.
Author Bio:
“Ilona Andrews” is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona
is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the
U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer
with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who
seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a
better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)
Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Texas with their two children and many
dogs and cats.
They have co-authored several bestselling series, including the #1 NYT
bestselling urban fantasy of Kate Daniels, rustic fantasy of the Edge,
paranormal romance of Hidden Legacy, and Innkeeper Chronicles, which they post
as a free weekly serial. For complete list of their books, fun extras, and
Innkeeper installments, please visit their website at Ilona-andrews.com.
Sophia’s Bio:
Sophia
is a quiet though curious gal who dabbles in cooking, book reviewing,
piano-playing, and gardening. Road trips and campouts, museums and monuments,
restaurants and theaters are her jam. Encouraged and supported by an incredible
man and loving family. A Northern Californian transplant to the Great Lakes
Region of the US. Lover of Jane Austen, Baseball, Cats, Scooby Doo, and
Chocolate.
As a lifelong reader, it was inevitable that
Sophia would discover book blogs and the joy of blog reviewing. Sophia is a
prolific reader and audiobook listener which allows her to experience so many
wonderful books, authors, and narrators. Few genres are outside her reading
tastes, but her true love is fiction particularly history, mystery, sci-fi, and
romance. Though, sorry, no horror or she will run like Shaggy and Scooby.

ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart
You said it, Anne!
DeleteI do wanna try these new ones
ReplyDeleteYou are in for a treat, Blodeudd!
DeleteNice review. I "struggled" a little with this one (as much as one does with such an amazing series). I was so worried it would be a return to the Pack and original series, I think that overshadowed my enjoyment. I've purchased the audiobooks and will listen with a more open mind, now that I know what happens.
ReplyDeleteI've had that sort of feeling happen a few times for different books. Hate thinking I know exactly where a books going and not liking that, but what a relief when I got worked up over nothing. :) I want to listen to the audios, too, but not sure when I'll get around to it.
DeleteOne of these days I will read this author duo ;-)
ReplyDeleteA future treat in store, Debbie. :)
