The Turncoat
Release Date: July 28, 2023
Spy. Redcoat. Traitor.
After Captain John Carlisle’s dance with death, he’s retreated to the serenity of the Oneida village with his beloved Dellis McKesson to hide from the inevitable truth that war is coming to the Mohawk River Valley. But when duty calls, and John’s expertise is needed to negotiate a treaty with the Six Nations of the Iroquois and the Crown, he’ll once again be forced to decide between his conscience and his king.
But many secrets have yet to be revealed, and a deal with the Devil made in desperation threatens to ruin Dellis and John’s love. As ghosts of the past resurface and a bitter family rivalry exposes betrayal from those closest to her, Dellis is dragged down a devastating path to the truth of her parent’s murders.
The die is cast as St. Leger and his native allies lay siege to Fort Stanwix. The British are planning a secret attack that will force the Rebels and the Oneida into a bloody battle at Oriskany, further dividing John’s loyalties and leaving him on the precipice of a decision: Rebel or Redcoat?

My Audio Review of The Turncoat:
The Turncoat
Rebels and Red Coats #3
TJ London
TJ London’s, The Turncoat, #3 in her Rebels and
Red Coats saga is AMAZING, a non-stop action packed, nail biter from page one
until The End. She doesn’t shy away from the real cost of war, nor does she
sugar coat the hardships the colonists and especially the women had to face day
after day. Her narrative is gritty, in-your-face and no holds barred, letting
the audience experience the realistic feeling of life on the frontier with
danger at every turn and her storytelling is absolutely, unforgettably,
enthralling giving her audience no choice but to hang on every word. The love
story between John and Dellis is as usual fraught with all types of obstacles
most of their own making but a few unavoidably due to fate. And her characters
are all so genuine, and yes the good guys are flawed but still honorable and
the villains run the gamut from diabolical to manipulative to pure evil. But
it’s definitely John and Dellis who rule the pages and TJ keeps us on our toes
with all the pitfalls and perils she puts them through. If you enjoy realistic
historical fiction, Revolutionary fiction, stories that feature strong women
and truly realistic characters then The Turncoat will keep you up until the wee
hours to finish just like it did me. This novel picks up just after The Traitor
leaves off so the novels will need to be read in order.
Narration:
The narrators are brilliant, each one is perfect for his or her role and they
all put just the right emotion or lack thereof in just the right place. There
are both American and English accents that give the novel a more genuine feel
and the best way to experience the book.
Captain John Carlisle has flirted with disaster many times
since coming to the colonies to spy for the crown hoping to rebuild his ruined
reputation. Nevertheless, he’s fallen in love with and married a local woman
with ties to the rebels and become a member of her Oneida tribe. War is
inevitable and he’s finding it harder and harder to stay true to his King and
his newfound family and more often than not is feeling like a traitor to both
sides. But when he’s called by his superiors to help broker a deal with the
native tribes to help the crown he dons his uniform and heads into danger. If
he can keep the lies he’s not yet revealed to Dellis from biting him in his
backside, keep his enemies at bay and his powerful friends close at hand and protect
those he loves it’ll be a real miracle.
Dellis McKesson has survived much in her life and just when
she finally think she knows the man she loves yet another of his secrets are
exposed and this one may just be to high to pay. There’s also the small problem
that she is on the side of the rebels and her lover is a Red Coat and with war
on the brink there may be no winners.
