Welcome to my stop on the Hello My Name is Hop hosted by Herd Hops
We’re ringing in the New Year with lots of giveaways! And by sharing some fun and wacky facts about ourselves. There’s a new giveaway at each stop so be sure to visit them all!
Hello my name is Debbie
Now I know you’re expecting quirky and fun things and some may find this to be the “Big Bang Theory” equivalent to quirk, but hey it’s my quirk ;-) so enjoy!
Mrs. Spock wannabe
Okay one little known fact about me to my online friends is that I’m a Trekkie. I loved them all, the original, Deep Space Nine, The Next Generation, Voyager. And have seen every Star Trek film. Now I’ve never gone as far as to dress up and attend any of the conferences but I have been tempted. In fact I would have left my husband for only one Vulcan and cried when he died.
Live long and Prosper V
This is from 2012 when my precious baby girl gave me a Trekkie Christmas present when a museum in town featured all things Star Trek.
My Obsessions
To show my inquisitive audience a little about how I tick I’m listing some of my not so well known obsessions.
Turtles - a delectable confection of pecans chocolate and caramel. Our local gourmet candy seller Bissinger’s calls them Bear Claws Royale and I have been known to eat an entire box if they’re left unattended or in our house unlocked ;-)
Gooey Butter Cake - A St. Louis original (Wikipedia) and was accidentally created in the 1930s by a baker who made a mistake in his deep butter cake. There are many bakers in town who make the concoction but no one makes it better than my mom.
Dark Fantasy - Now this might surprise a few of you who know I LOVE all genres of romance but I’m also a huge fan of dark fantasy. My first introduction to the genre was the trilogy by John Twelve Hawks, The Traveler, The Dark River and The Golden City. Since then I’ve enjoyed many, two of my favorite authors in the genre today are Mark Lawrence and J. Barton Mitchell
I’m on the Nice list well usually
My daughter is 35 but at the vulnerable age of 10 some of her classmates were becoming Santa Claus non-believers. She asked me about it and when I told her he was real she wanted proof. I told her faith was all about believing when the evidence isn’t right in front of your face and I told her that I still believed in Santa and that was all it took. I even interviewed him on the blog a couple of years ago- Click here for our interview.
My literary journey
Some of you may not know my reintroduction to reading so….
Once upon a time a woman wanted a healthier life so she decided to quit smoking and she wanted to replace a bad habit with a good one so at a Christmas Party someone suggested reading and this fabulous book just came out called – The Davinci Code. That my friends was the beginning of not just a good habit but quite the obsession that led me to some incredible opportunities. From working for B&N.com as a book club moderator to becoming an editorial reviewer and serving on the board of my local library district for more than 7 years.
Plus my blog will be 6 on March 17th. Wow!
If I could save one book-
It would be Beatriz Williams Overseas. I was given an advanced copy of the novel by her publisher Penguin, had some extra time and the premise really caught my eye it was touted as a time travel novel but not really, huh. Needless to say I was BLOWN away by the novel and have been trying to get it in the Library of Congress ever since. Click here for my review on Goodreads

Well, I read lots of her books, as well even though I didn't claim to be a Trekkie. My mom passed away almost 6 years ago, and so when I see a Trekkie (not often), I like telling them how Mom took me to a ST Convention and I got James Doohan's autograph!! (Scotty).
