LASSOING SANTA!
Rust Creek Ramblings
With Christmas right around the corner, grumpy cowboy Bailey Stockton is getting grumpier by the minute, even though he’s wearing a Santa suit. We here at the Gazette think adorable veterinary technician Serena Langley could be the one to rescue Bailey from his holiday funk. Trouble is, they’ve each got more baggage than Kris Kringle lugs on his sleigh. So deck the halls, dear readers, and see if Santa can deliver a happy ending!

Message from Brenda Harlen:
O Christmas Tree
There are many visible signs that the festive season is upon
us: decorations in the stores, Christmas music on the radio, holiday cards in
the mail. But regardless of how much snow is on the ground (or even if there’s
none), it doesn’t feel like Christmas to me until the tree is decorated.
The ornaments on our
tree tell the history of our family, dating back to the year my hubby and I got
married and reflecting special occasions and events since. When we moved into a
new home, we were gifted an ornament to commemorate the occasion. The year we visited
Paris, we added an ornament of Santa climbing the Eiffel Tower. There are “First
Christmas” ornaments dated 1998 and 2000—one for each of our sons—and Snoopy in
a Santa cap at a typewriter, dated the year I sold my first book to Harlequin.
Mementos of the boys’ younger years include Dora the
Explorer, Thomas the Tank Engine,
Blue and Mr. Potato Head. Souvenirs from our travels include a Toy Story Alien
in Mickey’s Sorcerer’s hat from a trip to Disney World and R2-D2 and C-3PO
Mickey Ears from another visit during Star Wars Weekends.
There’s also an ornament from the house
featured in the holiday movie “A Christmas Story” that we visited when we were
in Cleveland, Ohio for a hockey tournament.
The tree isn’t merely
a decoration, it’s a treasure-trove of memories of our celebrations together.
That’s why, as much as I look forward to time with family and turkey dinners and
opening presents, I mostly anticipate decorating the tree and reminiscing about
the memories encapsulated by each ornament hung on its branches.
Whatever you do this holiday season, I hope you make lots of
happy memories!
Merry Christmas!

Thanks for this lovely and special feature and giveaway. The book sounds captivating and would be greatly enjoyed and the ornament very delightful and treasured.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, traveler! And Merry Christmas!
DeleteOf course, I'm a huge fan of your books and know I will love this one as well. Our Tree ornaments are like yours, full of memories, special meanings, some very old, some new. I try to get a new one every year.
ReplyDeletemine too Pam!
DeleteThere is a lot of fun stuff in this holiday story, Pam - not just the hunky cowboy and adorable dog on the cover, but a feisty heroine and a few other pets, too ;-)
DeleteOur tree is very eclectic and contains ornaments we have picked up from places we have visited along with gifts received and homemade ones by the kids.
ReplyDeletethat's the perfect kind thanks for sharing Kim
DeleteI agree with Debbie--that's the perfect kind of tree, Kimberly!
DeleteArtificial tree. I love real trees but they create a lot of mess.
ReplyDeletemine will be green forever too Natasha
DeleteMy hubby always had a real tree growing up and he always complains that our tree doesn't smell like Christmas. Once, I put pine-scented 'Scentsicles' on the tree, and he hated that even more--said it smelled like fake Christmas. But while real trees are beautiful, and smell wonderful, I agree they are messy and I'm already sweeping up dog hair every day . . . ;-)
Deletefake all the way.
ReplyDeleteFa La La La La :) me too!
DeleteLOL, Beverly S! Although I like Debbie's description of 'forever green' :-) Merry Christmas!
DeleteI like artificial, looks like th real thing, some are eco friendly, and lasts forever..also is great no need to burn..
ReplyDeletegood points Calvin
DeleteThanks
And the pre-lit trees mean no more messing around with lights, which is a huge bonus to me, Calvin :-)
DeleteAck, how are we even gonna get a tree this year... But they are a must!
ReplyDeleteyes they are and you'll figure it out Blodeuedd
DeleteEven Charlie Brown managed to find a tree, Blodeuedd ;-) Good luck!
DeleteWe have gone artificial, not too bad to store! Some of our old ornaments are my favorite, including some glass icicles.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite memories from childhood (yes they had electricity way back then LOL ) were the bubble lights on my grandma's tree. They sold some reproduced ones about 30 years ago and I bought them but they have long since given up the ghost. I may try to find them again. thanks for sharing holdenj
DeleteMy mom has some glass icicles on her tree and they are beautiful. I agree that the old ones are the best, holdenj, because they always hold memories of past Christmases :-)
Deletereal
ReplyDeletelove the smell of pine in the house
DeleteWe have an artificial one since the family has allergies and unfortunately can't have a real one. Thanks for sharing your ornaments and memories, those are the things that makes Christmas such a special time of the year.
ReplyDeleteAh I totally understand Anita and probably if I chose to get a real one I'd spend the season sneezing LOL
DeleteMerry Christas!!
I love Christmas trees. Mine actually stays up year round. I have a fake one now but that's a recent thing. And awwww puppy and cowboy. Heaven! lol
ReplyDeleteI know a few who leave it up all year, do you decorate it for each season or is it always a Christmas tree?
