Overview:
Hoping to make a clean break from a fractured marriage, Agatha Christie boards the Orient Express in disguise. But unlike her famous detective Hercule Poirot, she can't neatly unravel the mysteries she encounters on this fateful journey.

Agatha isn't the only passenger on board with secrets. Her cabinmate Katharine Keeling's first marriage ended in tragedy, propelling her toward a second relationship mired in deceit. Nancy Nelson - newly married but carrying another man's child - is desperate to conceal the pregnancy and teeters on the brink of utter despair. Each woman hides her past from the others, ferociously guarding her secrets. But as the train bound for the Middle East speeds down the track, the parallel courses of their lives shift to intersect - with lasting repercussions.

Filled with evocative imagery, suspense, and emotional complexity, The Woman on the Orient Express explores the bonds of sisterhood forged by shared pain and the power of secrets.

My Review:

The Woman on The Orient Express
Lindsay Jane Ashford
Narrated by Justine Eyre
This amazing tribute to Dame Agatha is filled with both facts and fiction of one part of the unforgettable life of this one in a million, avant-garde woman. Agatha herself narrates the story that begins just after her real life divorce and tabloid sensation disappearance and follows a fictionalized version of her actual Orient Express passage into the Middle East, plus hearing the voices of Hercule Poirot and her mother in her head add to both the mystique and the enjoyment of this exceptional novel. The mix of real and imagined is superb, the storytelling is fabulous and the slow tempo fits this mesmerizing tale like a glove. The scenery is unfamiliar and alluring, dangerous and exciting from Bedouin bandits to archeological digs. The characters are exceptional and the characterization of how she met her second husband and future lifelong friends The Wolleys also a mix of true and make believe is excellent. Any Christie fan, lover of historical fiction or alternate history will devour this novel.
Narration: Justine Eyre’s true British narration is phenomenal giving the story more life and an added dimension than reading alone could provide. Her vocal depictions are spot on for both male and female and with enough variations to differentiate all the characters for the listener.
Feeling adrift learning her ex-husband is marrying his longtime lover Agatha Christie incognito boards The Orient Express hoping the exotic backdrops of Mesopotamia will help fill the hole in her heart and give her a reason to smile again. Little did she know that she’d prevent a suicide, befriend a woman also running from life and that the people she’ll encounter on this life changing journey will eclipse anything this mystery writer has ever imagined before.
