Can a feisty parolee and a jilted ex-army hero escape the
clutches of a deadly corporation before they kill each other?
To comply with her parole conditions, hot-headed, roller-blading champion Zena
is forced to work with her do-gooder sister. When they unearth the reason
behind the declining hatchlings in the turtle breeding ground downstream, they
unwittingly witness something they should never have seen. Bullets start
flying, and running for their lives, Zena calls the only person who can help,
her sister’s ex-boyfriend.
A failed mission robbed ex-army hero Nick, AKA Blade, of both his best friend
and his military career. Desperate for a distraction from his shattered life,
and despite his gut instinct telling him otherwise, he agrees to rescue the
sisters. Blade orders in his team who he hasn’t seen since the shit went down
in Afghanistan.
But saving the sisters has Blade fighting two fronts. One is his unwanted
attraction to Zena. The other is escaping a merciless corporation who, in a
battle to contain their noxious secret, test Nick and his team to the limit.
Will they complete their mission? Or will Zena and Blade die trying to save
each other?
Get ready for the adrenalin rush and settle in for the steamy romance. Mission
Escape and all the books in Alpha Tactical Ops series are full-length, romantic
suspense stories with no cliff-hangers and a happily ever after guaranteed.
Alpha Tactical Ops Series, featuring Ex-military men and women and the partners
trying to tame them, is a series of standalone books with interconnecting
characters.
Sophia Rose's Review:
A stint of community service for a roller derby champion leads to a deadly adventure and rescue comes in the guise of her sister’s ex and his old battle buddies. Kendall Talbot works her magic once again to give an adrenaline-pumping suspense and sensual romance all rolled into one.
Escape Mission launches a new series and is set in Queensland, Australia involving hot-tempered roller-blader and parolee Zena and a crusty, guilt-ridden former soldier, Nick. Nick had a rough war out in Afghanistan when he lost some of his team and sent him back to civilian life. Now his ex and her sister have tumbled into something big when their investigation of a company that might be polluting the river and killing off the local turtle population leads to gunfire and the sisters trapped in the cave they fell into running from the plant employees. Things go from bad to worse. Time to assemble his old team because they need all the help they can get.
This one barely slowed down once it got rolling and focused more on the escape and figuring out what the sisters had stumbled across. There was time for cute baby turtles and light banter. A slow build fiery romance strikes up between a reluctant Zena and Nick once they got things settled over the nasty break-up in Nick’s past involving Brooke. I enjoyed their sizzling attraction that worked well with the suspense element. Nick was smart and competent and Zena did pretty well considering- though I could have used less of her screaming when things got a bit bloody and gritty (okay, to be fair, I’d get squeamish over that stuff, too).
It ended big and finished up this plot thread, but also tantalized with the hint that something was hinky with what happened to his team in Afghanistan and that will carry over in the series as other team members get their stories.
I was feeling a bit of a letdown after the Treasure Hunters series finished up, but
this opener to the new Alpha Tactical Ops
series consoled me nicely. I can
definitely recommend it for those who like rushing adventure and suspense
blended with sizzling spicy romance.
