GoodReads Blurb:

They had loved so passionately, and then their marriage ended. Will a dangerous assignment give them a second chance or bring a permanent end to their love and lives?

Gayle Chambers always dreamed of studying alien life. But now that she’s on a sand-blasted desert planet, the dream seems more like a nightmare. Dangerous, corrupt officials would just as soon see her dead as allow her research come to light. If that’s not bad enough, her bodyguard turns out to be her ex-husband who broke her heart and trust when he chose Cyborg Force over her. She’s never forgotten or forgiven the rejection. Now she’s stuck with him while she investigates the secrets of an alien intelligence. Will she be able to complete her mission or will her life and heart come under siege?

As a young man, Axel Vander had wanted to become a cyborg and save the world. Then he met and married the love of his life, the brilliant, ambitious Dr. Gayle Chambers. He never fathomed joining C-Force would destroy their marriage. He’d only wanted to become a husband she could proud of. Instead she’d walked out, divorcing him and shattering his heart. He’s never gotten over the betrayal, but he’ll perform his duty and keep her safe. But how will he protect his wounded heart?

Braving fierce dust storms and deadly government machinations, they’ll race against the clock to save an alien intelligence. But can Axel and Gayle regain the love they once had before time runs out?

Sophia Rose's Review:

Gale Force is a rocky reunion of the exes in a close proximity situation from a long time auto-buy author.  After the exciting opening events of Blown Away and the big sci-fi alien surprise at the end, I as eager as could be to press forward with the next book in the series.

Gale Force is the second book in the Cyborg Force series that must be read in order.

Dr. Gayle Chambers has arrived on planet in something of a discombobulated mood.  First, the situation is all hush hush and she doesn’t know what she’s getting into though she trusts the scientific job she has been offered by another known and respected researcher will be worth the implied danger of needing a body guard following her about.  The primitive nearly bare planet is covered in sand and the accommodations are rather basic.  However unsettling all that may be, the cyborg assigned to guard her- and stay in the same quarters- is her ex whom she didn’t part from amicably after he put his career before their relationship.

Only, Axel Vander has an utterly different perspective on the past they shared and Gayle gets rather a shocker when he unloads his truths on her about the time she decides to ignore the rules and do some independent research.  To surprising results for all.

Back on earth, the president is pressuring her legal aide to push through her agenda and is a growing threat as the C-Force and scientific researchers uncover what the president is seeking to hide.

The first book introduced the world and the series conflict so well and now Gale Force picked right up and kept the chains moving forward with advances in the series plot both on earth and an alien world.  The fascinating new alien has revealed more and also revealed some deeper political intrigue to add to the tension.  I’m very curious about what was going on with that secondary plot thread on earth with the cold, ambitious president’s troubled lawyer and her lethal and watchful bodyguard.

But, back to the main event.  I could have been doubtful about the romance scenario as I wasn’t in the mood for a lot of ex drama and distracting issues.  I was right to trust Cara Bristol to give the conflict careful due, but also had the pair able to work through the knee jerk emotions, show the maturity the last several years have brought, and figure it out while partnering on her important research work and his efforts to keep them alive so they can report their findings.  I have no idea if it was on purpose, but I loved that whole Clive Cussler’s Sahara moment when they found the secret out in the sand.

The suspense just ratcheted up even with a nice denouement for this installment and left me salivating for the next book to see what comes next.  The quick-read, sexy, well-developed world and characters are a tantalizing combo that I can recommend highly to other light sci-fi romance fans.
