Overview:
Spoken about only in whispers, the Nowhere Man can only be reached by the truly desperate, he can He will do anything to save them.Evan Smoak is the Nowhere Man.
Taken from a group home at twelve, Evan was raised and trained as part of the Orphan Program, an off-the-books operation designed to create deniable intelligence assets i.e. assassins. Evan was Orphan X. He broke with the Program, using everything he learned to disappear and reinvent himself as the Nowhere Man.
But his new life is interrupted when a surprise attack comes from an unlikely angle and Evan is caught unaware. Captured, drugged, and spirited off to a remote location, he finds himself heavily guarded and cut off from everything he knows. His captors think they have him trapped and helpless in a virtual cage but they don t know who they re dealing with or that they ve trapped themselves inside that cage with one of the deadliest and most resourceful men on earth.
Continuing his electrifying series featuring Evan Smoak, Gregg Hurwitz delivers a blistering, compelling new novel in the series launched with the instant international bestseller, Orphan X.
My Review:
Book 2 in Gregg Hurwitz’s Outstanding Orphan X series,
The Nowhere Man is exceptional and Scott Brick’s narration definitely adds to
the enjoyment. In this installment the audience will see Evan bared to his soul
and learn more about his previous life in the Orphan program and his double
life now as Evan Smoak and The Nowhere Man. The action is unmatched both in its
depravity and its creativity and listeners will ooh and ah at the ingenious
ways Evan stays alive. There are some really big AH-HA moments in this novel
that will have the audience both wanting it to end so they can rush into book 3
but also wanting time to slow so they can enjoy every exciting moment and every
unforgettable character. Speaking of characters Gregg gives his fans some truly
evil doers and delves deeper into what makes Evan tick. There are also some
characters that go with the ah-ha moments mentioned earlier that will help fill
in all the blank plot dots. Fans of this series, black ops and non-stop action
will not be able to pull out their earbuds.
Narration:
Scott Brick IS Evan Smoak, his rough gravely voice gives Evan that secretive,
mysterious aura and his ability to bring the story to life by expressing the
right emotion at just the right time is unequalled. He also plays a mean bad
guy and a believable good guy.
After going rogue from the clandestine, deep black ops
government organization, The Orphan Program, Evan Smoak has made himself a
ghost and devoted his life to helping those who have nowhere else to turn by
turning himself into the Nowhere Man. But now Evan finds himself the one in
need of help when he falls into the trap of a sadistic man who wants Evan not
for his assassin services but for his bank account. Evidently the man doesn’t
know who Evan is so that’s an advantage but Evan’s afraid he might have been
put into a cage that’s escape proof. So now Evan has to dig deep into his bag
of tricks and hope one of them holds the key to this lock.
Praise:
Exciting and mind blowing! A perfect mix of Jason Bourne and Jack Reacher, ex operative Evan Smoak turns on the action and shows off all the right moves as he sets out to help the downtrodden, and perhaps save his own humanity along the way. Lisa Gardner
This thriller [is] top-notch.... Turn off the real world and dive into this amazing start to a new series. Associated Press
The most exciting thriller I ve read since The Bourne Identity. Fans of Jack Reacher, Mitch Rapp, and Jason Bourne will LOVE Evan Smoak, and the deadly, secret world of the Orphan Program. A new thriller superstar is born! Robert Crais
Orphan X blows the doors off most thrillers I ve read and catapults the reader on a cat-and-mouse chase that feels like a missile launch. Read this book. You will thank me later. David Baldacci
